Education
Montana supports medical education for Montana students at the University of Washington’s medical school as part of a collaborative effort with Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI).
The WWAMI Medical Education Program accepts students from this five-state northwest area. Montana has 30 student slots.
To educate our health care workforce, Montana also has:
- 1 PA program (Rocky Mountain College)
- 12 RN programs
- 1 CNL program
Enrollment is limited in each of these programs, and all have wait lists. It is critical that the schools have sufficient funds to hire the qualified faculty they need.
Training
More than 70 percent of residents trained in Montana, stay in Montana to practice medicine. The state supports graduate medical education (post-medical school training) in three residency programs:
- Family Practice Residency
Billings: 18 slots available
Missoula/Kalispell: 30 slots available
- Internal Medicine Residency
Billings: 24 slots available
