The state’s application to secure Montana’s portion of the $50 billion federal fund created to provide critical investment in rural healthcare is under review by the federal government after it was submitted in November by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS).

It’s anticipated that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal department administering the fund, will make award decisions on state applications by December 31, 2025. CMS reported in November that all 50 states applied and that funding will be distributed over five years beginning in federal fiscal year 2026.
